We have a prototype!
Hello again and welcome to the fifth issue of Building The Aerial Arts Hub — Journal of a Newbie Developer! I’m really excited about this issue because I finally have something concrete to share—a prototype! 🤩
Here’s what’s been happening over the past two weeks.
What I’ve done
After the past few weeks of designing in Figma, I’m super excited because I finally have a prototype of The Aerial Arts Hub! You can try it out for yourself by following the link below. I’d love to know your thoughts and any feedback you have—you can comment below or let me know over on Instagram.

Here’s how unhinged my Figma workspace looks after all of that. 🤪
I’m particularly proud of all the tiny details I poured so much effort into, like adding functionality to the heart icons and checkboxes and making sure their favourited/checked status doesn’t duplicate across any of the pages.
My only complaint at this stage is that the prototype gets laggy sometimes—maybe because of how much is going on with all the components. If you try the prototype and it freezes, just refresh the page and it should be fine again… 😬🤞
What I’m working on
I’ll need to adapt the design to tablet and desktop view at some point, but that’s not quite my next step yet. First, I want to send out the prototype to a couple of friends as well as some people in the aerial and pole community to get their feedback.
Once I know what tweaks I need to make, I’ll decide if I want to design the tablet and desktop views first or if I want to finally start coding…
What I’m learning
I thought I’d be able to finish the Codecademy JavaScript course by the time I write this but I’ve been so focused on getting the prototype ready that my actual learning has taken a bit of a backseat over the past two weeks.
I am really close to finishing the course, though; I am currently on the advanced objects module, which is the last one in the course. The concepts are quite unfamiliar to me, so I want to take my time to make sure I understand what I’m learning, rather than rushing through it just to say I’ve finished it.
Aerial things
I am on week three (out of four) of the static hoop mini-term I joined. It’s been really fun and quite challenging—getting taught tricks like tombe to pullover has been humbling, to say the least. 😅
I want to be patient with myself as I learn these new moves, but I do hope I can get my legs straight when doing magic trick/illusion sooner rather than later. Getting my legs through the hoop frog-style is not exactly graceful… I guess we’ll see if I’ve managed it in the next issue.
See you in two weeks!
