The prototype is underway!
Hello again and welcome to the fourth issue of Building The Aerial Arts Hub — Journal of a Newbie Developer! Here’s what’s been happening over the past two weeks.
What I’ve done
After creating quite a few of the mobile page designs for The Aerial Arts Hub in Figma, I started putting together the live prototype for the platform! It’s definitely not finished yet, lots of connections are still missing between the pages, and many of the pages still need to be designed, but it’s getting there!
Here’s a video of how it’s coming along:
Pretty exciting if you ask me. 🤩
What I’m working on
As you may be able to guess from all of the above, I’m currently working on finishing the prototype. The work is a little tedious and kind of messy… as you can probably tell from all of the connecting lines in the screenshot below. 😅
I’m hoping to be able to share the actual live prototype link in the next newsletter issue. 🤞You’ll be able to interact with it on your own screen, as if you were actually using the platform, so I’m really excited to get to that stage!
What I’m learning
I mentioned in the previous issue that I started using Codecademy to refine my JavaScript skills. I’m happy to report that I’m still enjoying it very much and have been finding the JavaScript course incredibly helpful.
As I approach the finish line of the course, I am finally feeling more confident applying the things I’ve been learning over the last few months. Three things I used to struggle with in particular and am now finally comfortable with: ternary operators, arrow functions, and array methods.
Next up in the course are iterators and objects. I will then tackle the mini JavaScript testing course, which should get me up to speed to jump back into The Odin Project!
Aerial things
I don’t have any grand aerial training updates, except that I finally bought my own pole grip! I treated myself to a tube of the pink/red Monkey Hands grip, which I know works well for me as I previously got to try some in a pole class. I found it much more effective than others I’d tried before.
Getting my own grip is my first real commitment to doing pole more consistently alongside hoop/lyra! Maybe my neglected heels will finally get some more use too…
I am also looking forward to starting a 4-week mini term in static hoop this coming week. I’m both nervous and excited; I hope I get to learn some great new skills as well as refine some of the things I’ve been working on, like rolls and a couple of dynamic combos from beats.
See you in two weeks!
